Swiss architect Valerio Olgiati has recently revealed his plans for a mixed-use development in Tirana, Albania, featuring three striking skyscrapers. This project, named Rruga Adem Jashari, will showcase buildings reaching heights of 150 metres, 192 metres, and an impressive 266 metres. These skyscrapers will host a combination of a hotel and an apartment block.
The towers will be constructed from red-toned concrete blocks, supported by a robust concrete base. At the heart of the development will be a stepped pyramid structure made of white concrete, creating a central plaza with a retail area extending below ground.
Olgiati describes the architectural concept as an archaic gesture of stacking blocks, which is expressed through facade pillars made of pigmented concrete. These pillars not only support the structure but also give the towers their totemic appearance. Renders reveal a unique design where the towers recess towards the top, emphasized by structural concrete pillars.
To enhance the connection with the nearby park, pine trees will be planted on the roofs of the towers, contributing to the project's green aesthetics.
The central retail space features a ziggurat-like shape with protruding staircases for access to upper levels. Olgiati envisions the entire complex as a garden, with pine trees integrated at each level.
Inside, spaces will be designed for flexibility, finished with exposed concrete and marble. Olgiati's approach allows for a free arrangement of internal partitions, making it versatile for various uses.
Construction for this groundbreaking project is expected to commence in autumn 2023.
Other notable projects in Tirana include a mixed-use high-rise composed of house-shaped pieces and a kinked skyscraper that aims to evoke the grace of ballet.
