A Major Shift in Versace's Leadership
Donatella Versace is stepping down as the creative director of the iconic fashion house Versace after nearly 30 years. She has been at the forefront of the brand since 1997, taking over after the tragic murder of her brother Gianni Versace.

During her tenure, Donatella oversaw countless fashion campaigns and even ventured into designing hotels and cars. Now, at 69 years old, she will be succeeded by Dario Vitale, a former design director for Miu Miu, who will also take on a new role as brand ambassador.
Speculations of a Potential Acquisition
This leadership transition comes amid rumors that the Prada Group may be interested in acquiring Versace from Capri Holdings, which purchased the brand for €2 billion (£1.67 billion) in 2018.

According to a statement from Capri Holdings, Donatella will now focus on supporting the brand's philanthropic and charitable endeavors, remaining a global advocate for Versace. The company acknowledged this change as part of a "thoughtful succession plan" and commended Vitale as a strong design leader whose vision will be crucial for Versace's future growth.
In her heartfelt statement on Instagram, Donatella shared her pride in continuing her brother's legacy, stating, "Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart." She expressed excitement about the future, saying, "I am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us, and excited to see Versace through new eyes."
Donatella's Impact on Fashion
Throughout her career, Donatella Versace has dressed numerous stars, including Madonna, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga. Notably, she designed the iconic green jungle dress worn by Jennifer Lopez in 2000 and Michelle Obama's dress for her 2016 state dinner.
Founded in Milan in 1978 by Donatella and her brothers, the Versace brand has become synonymous with bold colors and prints, embodying the unique style that Donatella herself has come to represent. As part of Capri Holdings, Versace contributed 20% to the company's projected €5.2 billion (£4.3 billion) revenue for 2024.
