Job Description

Posted on: February 4, 2025

Our mission at Misen is simple: to create well-designed, long-lasting cookware and offer it at an honest price. Each person on our team is passionate about making quality cookware more accessible and making cooking more joyful. Because what could be more joyful than creating, sharing, and devouring a delicious meal? In the past year we’ve rebuilt the company from back to front: brought Customer Service in-house, optimized our tech platforms across the board, revamped our supply chain and fulfillment—all with the intent to support strong growth without headaches. Before we press the pedal on marketing, we still have one major area left to fix: it’s time for a new visual brand. To that end, we’re building a world-class in-house Creative Team to take our simple value proposition and translate it into a clear, compelling, and distinctive visual brand that properly reflects our values—and our Senior Graphic Designer will be one of its primary architects. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with the Creative Team to help develop and implement Misen’s new brand identity across web, email marketing, social, packaging, photography, and more. Once Misen's brand has been launched, you will help maintain these new standards across every single touchpoint, guiding the brand's ongoing evolution, owning our team's primary design operations, and maintaining our new asset library. This role is a unique opportunity to not only build a brand for a respected company from the ground up, but to ensure that that brand looks incredible well into the future. In this role, you will:

  • Help to establish our recently created new brand system in anticipation of its launch this summer—across web, photography, digital marketing, packaging, and more.
  • Develop email marketing campaigns and flows, seeing them through from design to deployment.
  • Develop organic social media campaigns and assets (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest), paid social / digital advertising campaigns, and web assets.
  • Help design a new packaging system for our products, including unboxing collateral, and iterate on that system for regular new product releases.
  • Help develop special projects including brand partnerships and Kickstarter campaigns.
  • Manage our digital asset library, maintaining organization of all photographic assets and owning our ongoing retouching needs.

Experience & skills you'll need:

  • 5-7 years in a design role, including experience at an e-commerce/D2C company
  • Expertise in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Strong photography retouching / Photoshop skills
  • Expertise with email platforms and creating templates using best practices (we use Klaviyo)
  • GIF creation and video editing skills (a plus, but not required)

The ideal candidate excels at:

  • Communication. You are constantly getting positive feedback about how you express yourself, both in person and in writing.
  • Creative ideation. You tend to come to the table with several ideas, and like to flesh out a few of them before making a final call.
  • Execution. You believe in flawless execution; you can’t always achieve it, but you always strive for it.
  • Collaboration. You thrive on the back and forth not only with other creatives, but also with colleagues from other departments.
  • Curiosity. You ask a lot of questions, because clarity allows you to do outstanding work. And you appreciate being asked questions, because you know that in a trusting and transparent work environment, questions are not hidden criticisms.
  • A strategic mindset. You enjoy articulating why you’ve made certain decisions, and bringing others along for the ride.
  • Deep brand intelligence. You can identify brands you love and can articulate why.
  • Language. You’re not a writer, but you’re exceptionally comfortable working with copy, creating information-rich designs that communicate as well as delight—and every once in a while, you can come up with a good headline or copy that gets high five emojis from the ‘word people’.

You’ll fit right in if you are:

  • Someone who takes their work seriously, but does not take themselves too seriously.
  • Someone who thrives on feedback – both giving it and receiving it.
  • Self aware. You own your own behavior and can comfortably discuss mistakes, because we all make them.
  • Most efficient working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Fascinated by how the pieces of a D2C business fit together.
  • Funny! You appreciate cleverness and concepts that work on multiple levels.
  • A caring colleague and all-around decent human being.
  • Obsessed with food and/or cooking (of course).

Here’s what to expect in the first few months: Late March :

  • Get quickly up to speed on Misen’s project management tools and systems.
  • Build relationships and establish workflows with the Creative Team.
  • Begin designing email campaigns, social posts, and digital ads.
  • Contribute to Misen’s brand refresh in progress.
  • Help with photo shoots that will already be scheduled.

April/May

  • Assume primary responsibility for executing email, social, and site assets.
  • Revamp our auto-generated email flows using our new brand standards and photography.
  • Collaborate with our Design Director to plan and execute ongoing photoshoots.

June/July

  • Help design a new packaging system and unboxing material.
  • Help map out our plans to launch the refreshed Misen brand.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Team to plan our biggest Q4 yet.

Notes on the application process:

  • Candidates must submit a link to their online portfolio or upload a PDF of work samples when applying.
  • Because our remote Creative Team is located entirely in New York City, preference will be given to applicants on Eastern Standard Time Zone.
  • All applications must be received before the Monday, February 17th deadline.

Compensation Range: $95K - $125K
