Overview
Peace Residence, designed by Quinzhee Architecture, is a rustic retreat nestled in the scenic Lac-Beauport, Canada. Completed in 2024, this architectural marvel is situated on a wooded and sloping terrain near the summit of Le Maelström Mountain. It serves as a perfect starting and ending point for various hiking trails in the area, making it an ideal getaway for outdoor enthusiasts.
Design Concept
The project consists of two distinct volumes:
- Metal Volume: Clad in eastern township tiles, this structure rises over three levels and houses the interior spaces, including a rooftop terrace equipped with a spa. Its design adapts to the natural slope of the site, forming a parallelogram shape that offers protection from the wind and provides privacy for the spa.
- Wooden Bleacher: Emerging from the ground, this large structure is covered in open-jointed cedar slats, extending southeastward like an observatory. It provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and serves multiple functions, including access to the metal volume and shaded gathering spaces.
Interior Layout
Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a rustic environment where the layout fosters a seamless connection between the interior and exterior. The ground floor features intimate bedrooms and a bathroom, while the upper floor living spaces are accessible via a ladder or the bleachers. The wooden structure reveals a balcony with magnificent views and overlooks the dense forest.
Additional Features
The retreat is designed not just for luxury but also for functionality, providing various areas for gathering, exercise, and contemplation. The architects have created a space that blends with nature while offering modern comforts and aesthetics.
