When I first started my design journey 20 years ago, my budget was tight, and trips to IKEA were essential for furnishing my first apartment. While many pieces have been discarded over the years, some have remained in my home, looking as fresh as ever. Here are the IKEA pieces that have stood the test of time and still hold a special place in my heart.
1. BILLY Bookcase
I've had my BILLY Bookcase for two decades. Originally bought in a dark wood veneer, I refreshed it with a brilliant white, making it fit perfectly into my living room. It's versatile, having moved with me to five different homes, and continues to showcase my books and collectibles beautifully.
2. POÄNG Armchair
Initially a temporary solution for my home office, the POÄNG Armchair became a favorite due to its comfort and flexibility. Its cheerful yellow headrest has brightened my workspace for over a decade, and even my cat loves to curl up in it!
3. BESTÅ Sideboard
The BESTÅ Sideboard has served many purposes, from storing dining essentials to displaying my TV. Its understated design allows it to blend seamlessly into any room, providing a visual pause amid more colorful decor.
4. RÖDALM Frames
I swear by RÖDALM frames for displaying art. They are affordable, come with mounts that enhance the artwork, and have stood the test of time while allowing the pieces within to shine.
5. ORRESLÄTT/BUSTER Chair
The classic ORRESLÄTT (formerly BUSTER) chair is a design that combines comfort and style effortlessly. Its ergonomic shape and timeless appeal make it a cherished piece in my home.
IKEA continues to inspire my design choices, proving that affordable furniture can indeed be stylish and enduring.
