A Unique Blend of Home and Gallery
London-based architecture practice O'Sullivan Skoufoglou Architects has completed a purpose-built home and gallery in Clapham for creative directors of RAW Editions, Tanya Grigoroglou and Rupert Worrall. The thoughtfully designed space reflects the couple's vision for a versatile environment and the architects' commitment to material exploration.

The couple first purchased their two-storey Victorian terraced house with a basement in 2019. With a deep sense of localism and a desire to remain in their favorite neighborhood, they appointed O'Sullivan Skoufoglou to reconfigure the dark four-bedroom house into a functional home, which also serves as the backdrop for the gallery's eclectic curation.
Design Features and Layout
Originally, the house had a disconnected layout; the ground floor and basement served as commercial premises with limited light. The new design integrates everyday duties seamlessly into the lives of the family, exploring the boundaries between private and public spaces.
The new entrance opens into an inviting gallery space that is brightened by floor-to-ceiling windows providing a sweeping garden view. A red terrazzo fireplace wall acts as a display ledge for the changing curation of artworks. The color palette of soft pinks and yellows echoes RAW's aesthetic, moving away from the expected white cube gallery.
Materiality and Functionality
True to their love for materiality, the architects aspired to include a rich palette of textures and colors. The use of linseed oil stain on the plywood kitchen cabinets reveals the birch wood grain, adding depth to the space. The design features include:
- Double glazing and underfloor heating for energy efficiency.
- A fireproofing strategy with the installation of sprinklers.
- Integration of the home and garden without costly extensions, ensuring a seamless transition from inside to outside.

The home allows each family member to find their moment of peace, reflecting a unique 'living with art' ethos. The design decisions made in this project exemplify how well-planned and purpose-led designs can create dynamic spaces.
Client and Architect Collaboration
Amalia Skoufoglou, Director at O'Sullivan Skoufoglou Architects, highlighted the creatively exhilarating process of working closely with the clients. Tanya Grigoroglou emphasized how the design captures their personal aesthetic while enhancing the seamless transition between public and private life.
