Introducing the Cocoon-Freelancer

The Cocoon-Freelancer is a groundbreaking creation by Attia Design, offering a chemical-free alternative to traditional camper vans and mobile offices. This innovative wooden cabin emphasizes simplicity and sustainability, making it ideal for modern professionals and adventurers.

A Sustainable Design

Weighing approximately 1,200 kg, the Cocoon-Freelancer is crafted without glue, chemicals, or plastics. It is designed to fit onto the back of standard medium-duty vans like the Mercedes Sprinter or VW Crafter.

Collaboration for Innovation

Spanish industrial designer Maruan Attia partnered with Schreinerei Weidlich, a skilled manufacturer, to develop this mobile structure over three years, during which a prototype traveled 9,000 km across Europe.

Materials and Inspiration

Constructed entirely from Swiss pine, the cabin draws inspiration from Alpine architecture and Japanese wooden construction. The timber is harvested during the waning moon in winter, ensuring optimal durability and resistance to insects and mold.

Interior Features

The interior is a cabin-lover's dream, featuring:

  • Panelled walls
  • A seating area that converts into a bed
  • A gas-powered kitchen
  • A Swiss-made Tiny Stove

Sustainable practices continue with a stainless steel water system and ample storage.

Designed to Last

The wood structure is designed to age gracefully, using clever joinery techniques to minimize external fastenings and prevent water damage.

Off-Grid Living

Solar panels on the roof enhance the off-grid capabilities of the Cocoon-Freelancer, allowing users to enjoy nature without compromising on comfort.

Attia emphasizes that design is about problem-solving and creating meaningful solutions that resonate with shared values, aiming to build a better future.
