Spanish designer Isern Serra has transformed his Barcelona studio into a space that exudes warmth and creativity. This refurbishment features curved walls, arched openings, and shelves adorned with inspirational objects, creating a homely atmosphere that encourages comfort and freedom to create.
A Deeply Human Design
Serra’s design philosophy aims to make employees feel truly at ease, fostering an environment that promotes inspiration and reflection. He describes the studio as a place that fulfills functional needs while also reflecting the personalities of those who work there.
The Concept of Estudio-Casa
The studio, referred to as Estudio-Casa, is situated on the fourth floor of a 1960s industrial building in the Poblenou district. It embraces a layout inspired by domestic living areas rather than traditional office designs. The interior is divided into two zones, with private areas on a raised platform and a workspace near full-height windows for natural light.
Key Features of the Studio
- Arched openings provide access to a meeting room and a corridor leading to amenities.
- The meeting room features a unique cream-colored lacquered table supported by a single cylindrical leg.
- A curved wall merges with a platform that accommodates an L-shaped sofa, creating a serene lounge area.
- The kitchen is designed with dark walnut wood units and a rounded dining table, topped with a striking Caliza stone worktop.
Sculptural Elements and Artistic Touches
The workspace features sculptural concrete tables that appear to float, adding a sense of lightness to the design. Serra emphasizes that these tables are central to the studio's overall aesthetic.
Floating shelves display various artworks and design objects, giving the studio a vibrant personality and allowing it to serve as a venue for public events such as talks and exhibitions.
Founded in 2008, Isern Serra's studio is known for its blend of minimalist forms with a playful Mediterranean flair, resulting in dreamlike spaces. Previous works include innovative interiors for concept stores and award-winning office designs.
