Aviary Productions is currently seeking a volunteer Art Team Lead to join our team. We're a collective of game developers and students united to create a high-quality portfolio game using Unreal Engine 5. The aim is to launch this game on Steam for free, showcasing multiple portfolio pieces for each contributor.
This part-time position is unpaid, as our primary objective is to gather valuable experience in game development.
We're searching for candidates who display a willingness to learn and possess the drive to explore and enhance their skills. While prior knowledge of the required roles is preferred, we welcome individuals eager to specialize and grow in those areas, even if their expertise is limited.
Role Description
This is a volunteer remote role for an Art Team Lead. The Art Team Lead will be responsible for managing and leading the art team, coordinating art production, and ensuring quality and consistency in all visual assets. The day-to-day tasks include collaborating with other departments, providing feedback and guidance to team members, and ensuring that art goals and deadlines are met. The Art Team Lead will also be involved in creating concept art, 3D modeling, texturing, and animating characters and environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the art team, composed of 3D and Lighting Artists, by assigning weekly tasks and providing constructive, timely feedback.
- Work with the Level Designer and other department leaders to define the game's overall framework, style and goals.
- Act as a liason between the art team and other departments including creature modeling, animation, code and audio.
- Create and maintain pipeline documentation to ensure workflow consistency.
- Attend weekly art team, studio-wide and lead meetings.
- Learn industry-standard skills and build your portfolio.
Qualifications
- Enjoyment and ambition in game development and 3D Modeling.
- Have previous work in creating Models in Blender, Maya, or similar software.
- Have experience in 3D sculpting in programs such as ZBrush, Blender or equivalent software.
- Have some knowledge of Unreal Engine and art pipelines to guide the team effectively.
- Willing to spend 15 hours/week to create, review, and update tasks assigned to you or the art team.
- Willing to learn, improve your skills, provide and implement feedback.
- Skills in Concept Art, 3D Modeling, Texturing and Set Dressing
- Excellent Communication and Collaboration Skills
- Ability to Work Independently and Remotely
